I love wine but it’s not just a passion, it’s an outlet for me to unwind and appreciate all the time, effort and art that goes into packaging a bottle. For wine is much like our lives or the people in them, a bottle either meets our expectations or doesn’t and sometimes we get one that exceeds. So I experiment until I find all those bottles out there that over deliver ((the corporate work ethic in me : ) Shopping for wine is just like shopping for a dress, you look for the one that fits your mood, your body, your taste. It is so individual and so much fun. I enjoy wine shopping just as much as my trips to the mall, because I love striking those finds! It’s much like any other great deals you find – a bottle that contains brand name luxury taste for a discount price! That’s what I strive for, those wines who over deliver, exceed expectations, pack luxury and quality into a great price.
Anju was always a consistent wine drinker but her love for wine led her to build her own wine cellar where she began collecting favorites and rare bottles. After her tastings, she began maintaining meticulous tasting and pairing notes to share with family and friends. Soon she became known as the family wine expert and was sought after for her recommendations. Anju began to understand the complexity and beauty of wine and became intrigued by the wine making process. Her love for wine led her to vineyards across the country which further strengthened the relationship. And so began her journey...
After the birth of her daughter in 2007, the now mother of two decided to switch gears and follow her passion for wine. She began working with Swirl Events, a New York City based wine tasting events company. Her role as "Swirlette" enables her to host events for corporate and private functions. More importantly, it provides the platform to learn, educate, inspire and spread awareness. Anju also works actively on marketing and business development for Swirl Events (www.swirlevents.com) and seeks out opportunities to try more wine!
Anju received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Information Systems with a minor in Journalism in 1996. After graduating, she went onto pursue a successful 12 year career managing corporate information systems at PriceWaterHouseCoopers and Altria.
Her favorite quote is "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain!" - anonymous. It was her inspiration to change careers and cultivate her true passion
